Since relics can simply be unequipped if you need them elsewhere, don’t be afraid to experiment with them. There are some that won’t make sense - you don’t want to put an Armor relic on a ranged tower, for instance, as that’ll go to waste since the towers themselves don’t take damage - but a lot of them can be useful for towers. If you do, every tower in that category will get the bonus. The game makes it fairly obvious that you can equip them on your champions, but you can also go into the Towers menu and equip them there. Those are the hex-shaped items you’ll sometimes receive as loot after you complete levels that can buff armor, critical hit percentage and other helpful attributes. It can also hit all kinds of enemies, even ones that float off the ground, whereas some other kinds of defenses are helpless against them. The fully leveled assault ranged tower is simply the most useful regular unit in the game, with excellent range and attack speed. When in doubt, put up a ranged tower and level it up.Ground troops slow down your enemies, and while you can level them up to do some pretty nice damage of their own, what you really want them to do is just delay the opposing units so your other towers can do the dirty work. In places where you can build two towers close together (usually right across from each other), you almost always want one of them to be a melee tower. If you find one of these locations, you’ll probably want to level up that tower first, as it’ll be called upon a lot. Often there will be a crossing point where a well-placed ranged or artillery tower can effectively do the job of two. On maps with more than one path, look for areas where one tower can cover both of them.If you build from the back and wait for the enemies to come to you, that option won’t be available. If a few enemies slip through, you can always throw up a melee tower right by the finish line as a last ditch effort. Placing towers nearest to the places opposing troops enter the map allows you to soften them up right away, and it’ll give you a good idea of where you’ll still need to put up more defenses further down the path. There’s no foolproof strategy that will beat every level, but in most cases, you’ll want to build from the front edge of the map and work back back.
Plus champions are just cool, as they represent the most famous characters from the Star Wars movies. It’ll be tempting at times to use them on boosts, especially if you’re stuck on a particularly difficult level, but the pods are so expensive that you’ll need to be patient and build up your balance. Save your Galactic Credits for buying recruitment pods to get new champions. You’ll probably have a favorite faction, but you should at least dabble in the opposing side too. It’s still worth it though, as there are separate Light and Dark achievements that really help you build up your balance of Galactic Credits. You progress through each campaign separately, so you’ll essentially be leveling up towers twice and unlocking more planets twice as well. Since you receive one champion when you begin the Light or Dark Side campaign, that means you’ll either have two Dark side champions or an extra powerful Darth Maul to start. That’s because DeNA has players unlock some goodies by completing social challenges before the game was released, and one of the prizes for all new players is a Darth Maul champion. Just like Yoda told Luke Skywalker, the Dark side might not be stronger, but in this case, it’s probably a little bit easier for beginners.
